US Weekly recently reported Britney Spears is pregnant for a second time with husband Kevin Federline. The new baby will have little Sean Preston for a big brother, who has already had some serious safety issues in his short seven-month life.
In February, California child welfare officials were called in after Britney was photographed driving with Sean Preston on her lap. Hmm…we mused, has this young mother never heard of an infant car seat? Could anything possibly be more dangerous and reckless?
No seat belt, no concern for air bags. It was about as cavalier as one can get. Even driving that way in a golf cart would turn parents heads in bewilderment and concern. Britney managed to get a reprimand, whereas a less-famous or economically fortunate Mom would have had her baby put into emergency foster care pending full- child welfare surveillance.
But wait…she did it again. Baby Sean also managed to tumble from his high chair smack onto the kitchen floor. Seat belts...high chair belts…why bother? Reports say Britney and Kevin were in the next room but too far away to catch their son before he fell. Hmm…my kids never managed to fall out of their high chairs. Why? They were strapped in, and secure behind the feeding tray. I was also there spooning one scoop of peaches at a time or handing over Cheerios to nibble on. Heck, Brit’s parenting blunder only involved a minor skull fracture. Let us imagine the emergency room with child welfare being called for the second time. Britney is reportedly considering legal action against the Laurel Oak Baby Trend High Chair, the high chair company, from Toys ‘R’ Us. But, such a filing seems more aimed at deflecting rumor than fact.
But wait…she did it again! The great news: she has been alerted to the existence of car seats. The bad news: she installed her infant seat perfectly wrong. Forward facing. Plus, did anyone notice how little Sean’s head tilted at a 45-degree angle to his body? Perhaps next up Britney can discover infant neck support pillows. How many other times has she done this without a camera catching her?
I am seriously thinking of sending Britney a copy of my parenting books, with little neon stickies hanging out on some of the most critical parenting 101’s. Imagine all the potential hazards awaiting Sean Preston as he becomes an active, climbing, curious toddler. I am also thinking booster seat and bike helmets here….
In fact, it may pay off to strap an infant helmet on Britney’s new baby as soon as she is born.
